Your Pants Aren’t an Extra Hand

November 5th, 2009

waiter-standingA countless number of waiters and waitresses do it and in turn it disgusts a countless number of customers.

Keeping your orders, checks and everything that touches your hands as far away from your body is not only hygenic, its something that will not gross out your customers. Think of the chain of touches that happen when you come to a table, you take their order by pulling out your pad from the small of your back, where, lets face it, is not all that clean of a place.

You touch your pad, then touch your drinks and set them on the table. Your customers toast to a good meal and you’re on your way to a problem. Appetisers are finger food at most restaurants, and if they arnt at yours, what are your customers using to break and eat the bread?

How about just the bill in the protective sleeve down your back? Just as bad. If you’re touching that, your hands are contaminating the bill, the next thing you touch, the extra fork a customer asked for, the 4 straws you just took out of your pocket… the list goes on. So…

Shirt tucked in, vest in the way, whatever your excuse… it won’t cut it, not with the patrons and especially not with the health inspector. Clean up your act, and you’ll see your tips go up as well.
